Stairs sanding and restoration services in London by professional local experts

For both residential and business clients, London, UK-based Floors Doctor provides a wide range of stair sanding and stair restoration services in London, UK? We can restore your hardwood stairs and sand and refinish them at the same time. Your floors and stairs both will have the same finishing procedure, and you can stain your stairs to match your flooring if you choose to do so. We have years of experience and can sand and refinish any kind of indoor wood stair.

The hardest element of restoring a hardwood floor is the staircase. This is due to the numerous corners, angles, and difficult-to-reach locations found in staircases. It requires a lot of manual labour, extra time, and attention to sand and scrape around spindles and posts. They are also the most expensive component of floor restoration per square foot as a result of this.

We only refinish the treads and landings of staircases because our sanding machines are made to sand flat, horizontal surfaces. (If your older home has solid wood risers rather than veneer, we might be able to restore those as well.) Stringers, spindles, posts, and handrails are the only additional components of the staircase that are not related to the flooring industry.

Below, you can see the orange-hued pieces of a staircase that we refurbish.

We can recommend a someone we know who specialises in recovering the wood on the stringers, spindles, risers, posts, and handrails if you would like that work done.

Another choice is to just paint these staircase components. Given that it’s the most economical, this is the one we frequently suggest. As you can see in the photographs above, most architectural and home design magazines feature staircases with painted risers, stringers, and spindles, which create a striking contrast to the wood of the stairs themselves. It has a wonderful appearance, is more affordable, and is simpler to maintain over time because you can make minor paint touch-ups as required. Even though we don’t offer this service, we can give you the name of a painter that specialised in painting stair parts as a recommendation.

The sort of staircase that needs to be restored will determine how much it will cost. The three most typical stair configurations in London and the neighbouring areas are shown below.

1. Stairs that are closed on both sides( right and left)
2. Stairs that are open on one side with spindles and closed on the other side.
3. Stairs that are open on both sides
